Jane Allan

Hi! I’ve been a photographer for over 20 years, specialising in photographing people. I started out as a freelance assistant photographer in 1996, working in fashion, advertising and commercial studios before I started photographing weddings in 1999. In 2009 I opened my first portrait studio in the UK.

Over the years many of my clients asked for help, because they had a great DSLR camera, but didn’t know how to use it. Some already knew a little about their DSLR, but wanted to learn how to take better photographs of their everyday family life in between their annual family portrait booking. So I taught small classes and gave one on one tuition.

Losing my mother 2 years ago made me realise how lucky I am to have so many photographs of my family, because my dad was a keen photographer and I started photography as a child. So I decided that, instead of just being a family photographer, I had to teach everyone to take their own great photographs.

That’s when the idea of The Lens Lounge started forming. Be The Boss of Your Camera, a camera course for beginners, is the first online course in the series.
